Reasons You Don't Want to be a Famous Billionaire

There are two elements to contend with here; being in the public eye and having lots of money. Now one could argue that being famous is the price you pay for having wealth. Does it really bother Donald Trump or Bill Gates to be billionaires? Is Warren Buffet hurting all that much? I dont see Oprah upset by all that income. But there is a hidden, if not obvious, downside to all those riches. Consider their lifestyles, if you will. Ill be happy to give you a real example.

Many years ago, in the 1970s, I was at a restaurant and Johnny Carson walked in with his wife. He was the late-night talk-show king at the time. He sat down as the whispering began. A few minutes later, a woman approached him for an autograph. He politely declined and explained he was trying to have a quiet meal. Yet she continued to badger him until several waiters were forced to escort her away. Needless to say, it was very disconcerting and appeared to ruin his dinner.

The point is, how can a public figure catch a break? Where can they go undisturbed? Can they head for the local mall, movie, caf, or fly any commercial plane without incident? That is the reason they have private movie viewings, personal trainers and chefs, personal shoppers, and fly private jets. You and I can go virtually anywhere unnoticed without giving it a second thought. But there are those that have many millions and escape the paparazzi. Thats because youve never heard of them. Perhaps the name is familiar, but you would never know them by sight.

For example, heres the top 20 worlds billionaires according to Forbes, 2006: 1. William Gates III 2. Warren Buffett 3. Carlos Slim Hel 4. Ingvar Kamprad 5. Lakshmi Mittal 6. Sheldon Adelson 7. Bernard Arnaul 8. Amancio Ortega 9. Li Ka-shing 10. David Thomson 11. Larry Ellison 12. Liliane Bettencourt 13. Prince Alwalee 14. Mukesh Ambani 15. Karl Albrech 16. Roman Abramovich 17. Stefan Persso 18. Anil Ambani 19. Paul Allen 20. Theo Albrecht

There are only three or four you might know at a glance. There are many more multi-millionaires that are corporate heads or founders of companies that could be staying in any hotel around the globe. They dont all have private jets or live in lavish estates. Some prefer a simple lifestyle and love the fact they can move about at will. Which group would you rather be in? Having lots of money but being totally anonymous is the best of both worlds. So, you dont make the Forbes list to have plenty. It all depends on your definition of plenty.

For instance, I am already worth far more than a million dollars and Ill be willing to bet youve never heard of me. I made it through investing and working hard. I hope my website makes me even more and only time will tell. But if I do become incredibly wealthy, I guarantee you will not notice me by the pool on Waikiki beach or having a caf au lait in a Paris restaurant. Instead, I will come and go as I please, with my wife beside me and you wont recognize her either. Well enjoy the fruits of our labors and never sign a single autograph or have our photo taken. Now thats the sweet and decedent life.
